Looking through the end of the long range forecast, it appears that's just what we're going to get this year. From tomorrow (Thursday) the first in a series of powerful southerlies will be coming in. Signs are good that 2013 will experience a textbook Canicula.

As is often the case with longer period swells it could get messy tomorrow (Friday) as the swell fills in. Saturday/ Sunday will likely be PERFECT. Forecast for next week couldn't be better.

Perfect weather, light offshore wind. This is a thick swell from a huge storm expected to deliver 5* surf conditions for three to four days. Mid week next size will drop off a little. Then Thurs/ Fri a second powerful swell will fill in.

Looking forward, it appears we've turned a corner with the weather leaving the early season rains in May and June and are now entering the 'Canicula'. Mostly on the left again as there's a lot of south in this swell. Should be getting bigger tomorrow with the arrival of a fresh 20 second southwesterly. We'll likely see more rights opening up as the predominant swell angle veers through 210.

There are a few lumps showing early next week, mid week and toward the end of the competition so expect to see chest to head high waves with occasional overhead sets. The weather forecast is more encouraging showing a 90% chance of sunshine & offshore wind for the rest of the event.

Well, almost everything - there are NO WAVES!! The good news is that they ARE on the way, due to start appearing Tues or Weds and will crank up (according to MSW) for a five-star final on the 22nd.

Teams met at the UNO gas station on the panamerican and proceeded up to the central park for speeches and a short display of Nicaraguan folklore dancing. Massive turnout.

Happy with his performance, Rick exited the water with more than 5 minutes left on the clock. BAD move. With SECONDS remaining Mother Nature dealt Hawaii's Mr Garcia some South Pacific loving.... and Sunny did what he does best... got his nuts shacked off whilst flipping the peace sign to the ISA photog, judges & roaring crowds as he locked down a perfect line.

Looked like the wind wasn't going to happen, then the switch flipped at 10am and it HOWLED through until 6pm. 4-stars for the early session; not much good through the afternoon.
