Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, Clean2-3ft, occasional head high sets.

Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSmall and clean. Once again unseasonably strong offshores.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSame again: small, clean, breezy. Middle of next week looking good then will be small again thru end of month.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanBreezy, shoulder high. Some fun little barrels coming in on the right with the tide falling.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSmall again today, should pick up tomorrow Wednesday. Outlook for the rest of July small with the odd overhead days.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanA bit of punch to it today, but once again on the small side.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSoid head high, light offshores. Thin band of swell not expected to last long.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSwell backed off already. Shoulder to head high and clean. Light wind, overcast but no rain.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanFun shoulder to head high at Colorados.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSimilar again today, 2-3ft and clean. Will be small through the end of the month. No significant swells appearing on the extended forecast yet, but chances are August will produce a few.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanNot much going on at Colorados this morning. Looking small the rest of the month.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanBest sets coming in head high, sunshine & light offshores.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanMore size and overall better conditions with reduced wind and increased swell. Should hold up through the weekend and next week will be small again. Several decent swells out at the end of the long range.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSolid head high, super consistent head high barrels both lefts and rights. Looking small through the rest of the week. First 10 days of August looking decent.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanNear perfect conditions with decent swell and light offshore winds. Good size, both peaks working.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSwell waning, overcast... hopefully get some rain. Its been extremely dry this year so far.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanGenerally shoulder high; sets coming in a little overhead. Moderate offshores. Still no rain.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanClear skies, small waves. August expected to start off small, should start picking up on the 3rd or 4th.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanWaist to shoulder high and glassy with zero wind.

Popoyo Outer Reef, July 2014

Popoyo Outer Reef: Double Overhead, CleanOuter reef was working this morning high tide dropping. Several people hitting it. Wind & weather conditions favorable, 15ft+ on faces.

Panga Drops, July 2014

Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanPanga Drops fairing better today on small swell and strong offshores.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanNada up at Colorados; Panga Drops 2ft. Nice day and winds are back to normal.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, Clean2-3ft clean.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanSmall again. Hopefully pick up later.
Panga Drops: Head High, CleanFun, shoulder to head high at Panga Drops.
Panga Drops: Head High, StormyConditions generally better at Panga Drops which was holding more size and better form today than Colorados.
Panga Drops: Head High, CleanNot much swell left in the water, but Panga Drops still managing the odd head high wave.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanPanga Drops working best today on weak swell.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanSmall waves and strong wind. Got a little crowded as nothing happening at Colorados.
Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanShoulder high and breezy. Fun to be had.

Playa Colorado, July 2013

Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSome punch to it, but generally small. Perfect weather between intermittent thunderstorms. Looking small for the next few days. Thursday will see the arrival of a powerful south westerly. Current models indicating favorable weather conditions through the end of the long range.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanFun day again today and once again perfect weather between the storms. A lot of rain the last few weeks, which is typical for this time of the year. We should soon be entering into a period known as the Canicula; fair weather, dry, light offshores every day. Sometimes the Canicula doesn't happen... we'll soon find out. Swell prognosis looking very positive for the rest of the month.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanJuly/ August are know as two of the best months for steady overhead surf, great weather and consistent offshore winds. Looking through the end of the long range forecast, it appears that's just what we're going to get this year. From tomorrow (Thursday) the first in a series of powerful southerlies will be coming in. Signs are good that 2013 will experience a textbook Canicula.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanNot here yet, but can't be far away!! The swell model has the entire Central American coastline painted red on the anticipated 20+ second swell. As is often the case with longer period swells it could get messy tomorrow (Friday) as the swell fills in. Saturday/ Sunday will likely be PERFECT. Forecast for next week couldn't be better.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanIts here. 22 seconds of purest South Pacific fury lighting up the entire coastline. Coming in clean from the first sets, both lefts and rights working. Perfect weather, light offshore wind. This is a thick swell from a huge storm expected to deliver 5* surf conditions for three to four days. Mid week next size will drop off a little. Then Thurs/ Fri a second powerful swell will fill in.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanDay two: swell coming in at full force and once again perfect weather. Wall to wall sunshine and light to moderate offshore winds. Looking forward, it appears we've turned a corner with the weather leaving the early season rains in May and June and are now entering the 'Canicula'. This being the case, the prognosis is good for super consistent surf for the rest of July and August.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanDay 3: Slight reduction in swell strength today and angle seems to have veered a few degrees opening up the right here at Colorados. Wall to wall sunshine, 10-15mph offshore wind. Weather and surf forecast looking promising through the end of the long range.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanDay 4 and absolutely no let up in the swell; Colorados FIRING from dawn to dusk. Size will reduce Tuesday through Thursday, then Friday swell strength will intensify once again for the weekend. Fair weather forecast throughout.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanDay 5 and no signs of weakening. If anything, it felt like there was more energy in the water today. Overhead, pushing double overhead on the sets and great weather all day. Quick but heavy rain in the afternoon to keep the place green and beautiful.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanDay 6: Every point, reef and beach break up and down the coast fully lit up. No signs yet of weakening swell; if anything it was coming in stronger today than yesterday. Partially overcast and occasional heavy rain with passing thunderstorms. Swell due to intensify Friday and Saturday, decent weather looks set to hold. Most of today's photos are from Popoyo Outer Reef.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanDay 7: Swell finally on the decline, but still solid overhead and great form a fun morning session before wind drifted onshore midday. Heavy rain through the later part of the afternoon and into the evening.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanAfter a record six days straight of double overhead, barreling perfection this latest series of swells has run its course. Looking OK for the weekend and through the early part of next week. From Thursday 18th on it will start throttling up again for what could be another extended run of 5* conditions.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanUnexpected uptick in the swell today and perfect, perfect weather. Wall to wall sunshine, warm water, light offshore breeze. Surf forecast looking good through the end of the long range.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanFun today: shoulder to head high, great weather and light offshore breeze all day.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSmall today and not looking good for tomorrow, Tuesday. But swell is on its way... and plenty of it. Will likely show up Thursday or Friday at the latest. Its a thick band that will have the break pumping through the weekend. The latter part of next week from Wednesday 24th looking promising.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanLatest swell started showing up early morning, as promised. Glassy head high surf through the first part of the day became messy in the afternoon as the swell intensified the rips kicked in.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSwell angle beyond 220 degrees, meaning mostly rights here at Colorados today. Stirred up and rippy out front the beach club and the middle area of the break. The best peak was the right up the west end of the break (out from Altos) that fires up on these swell conditions.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSmall today, some nuggets making it through every now and then. Wind remains breezy blowing 15mph+, sufficient to have it white capping out to sea. Mostly blue skies. 2-3ft.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanGrey skies early cleared up midday. 3-4ft surf and 15mph+ offshores. Double tap pair of swells due in next week. The first a southerly peaking out at 20 seconds due Monday, July 29th. As this fades a 20 second south westerly will come in on its heels Friday, August 2nd. Offshores will hold throughout, but some risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanGood start to the day with light offshore wind and glassy head high surf. Clouded over mid morning and rapidly went downhill. In spite of heavy rain/ thunderstorms through the afternoon the offshores held up and waves were OK.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSwell angle backed through south (172 degrees) giving steady supply of punchy, shoulder to head high lefts. Grey day again with scattered showers; winds moderate offshore in the 15-20pmh range. More of the same expected through the weekend and a 20 second southerly forecast to arrive early morning Monday.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanForecast was calling for sloppy 2ft surf on a weak 12 second swell. At the beach it was a different story with conditions solid overhead, clean and consistent. Mostly on the left again as there's a lot of south in this swell. Should be getting bigger tomorrow with the arrival of a fresh 20 second southwesterly. We'll likely see more rights opening up as the predominant swell angle veers through 210.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, Clean3-4ft, overhead on sets. Moderate offshores. 20 second pulse should be appearing tomorrow.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanOn the fat side first thing, but cranked as the tide dropped and swell intensified mid morning. Clean, consistent 5-6ft against moderate offshores. Weather forecast looking good through the end of the long range but there's an unseasonal lull looming mid August.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead, CleanBig, mostly closed out and strong rips. Occasional rideable shoulders coming through. Should improves as swell fades.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSwell strength down and seems like there's more west in it today. Quick thunderstorm with heavy rain mid afternoon groomed it nicely for a fun sunset session.

Playa Santana, July 2013

Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanNothing at Colorados, but GOING OFF round at Santana. Big waves on the way, should be filling in Friday, July 19th.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanJiquiliste delivering the good once again today, Thursday. Perfect weather: sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine. Oh, how could I forget, light offshore wind.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanUnseasonal blast of strong wind today was blowing side/ side onshore at Colorados. Protected by the bluff it was working better round at Santana. Looking small the rest of the week.

Panga Drops, July 2013

Panga Drops: Shoulder High, CleanSimilar to yesterday; a lot of west in it and mostly rights. The week ahead is looking more settled with no faltering in the offshore winds. Several juicy swells on the radar through the end of the month and first few days of August.

Playa Colorado, July 2012

Playa Colorado: Chest High, GlassyUnsurfably small through the morning. Mid afternoon some swell started appearing. Light offshore and sunshine.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyIndependence day 2012: Forget the fireworks, Colorados on FIRE!!
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSwell peaked out yesterday afternoon, but occasional solid lumps still appearing. Steep beach making it backwashy on the higher tides.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean2-3ft, breezy. New swell due in soon...
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSets running head high to overhead, 10-15mph offshore wind. Sunshine all day. No hay que quejar ;)
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyCalm before the storm. Seems hard to imagine the place will be rammed with ISA chaos this time next week. Hardly anyone about at the moment and good waves all day :))
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanCarnival atmosphere taking a hold of the place. National flags draped from the windows of the condos, big name professionals hanging on the beach and the grass hat man hawking his wares. Some pros obviously out in the water today.Sets running overhead. Blustery offshore wind at 15-20mph. No photos from the morning session (which was best) as Miguel got lost in Rivas :/
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanPlenty of juice remains in tail end of what has been a fun southerly. There's a lull looming on the forecast starting tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. The good times should be back with us for the finals Wednesday 18th onwards.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanAs the competitors arrive, the swell fades. Less punch today and looking to get smaller still Fri and Sat. There are a few lumps showing early next week, mid week and toward the end of the competition so expect to see chest to head high waves with occasional overhead sets. The weather forecast is more encouraging showing a 90% chance of sunshine & offshore wind for the rest of the event.
Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, CleanEverything is set: Pro surfers from around the world, judging stand, dancing girls, food tent, journalists, photographers, sponsors.... Well, almost everything - there are NO WAVES!! The good news is that they ARE on the way, due to start appearing Tues or Weds and will crank up (according to MSW) for a five-star final on the 22nd.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanSlight improvement in surf conditions today. 2-3ft through the morning with the occasional head high set coming in. Empty line up in the afternoon as EVERYONE was in Rivas at the opening parade. Teams met at the UNO gas station on the panamerican and proceeded up to the central park for speeches and a short display of Nicaraguan folklore dancing. Massive turnout.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanBeautiful weather, good waves. A successful day #1 to the ISA 2012 masters. A sideshore wind whipped up by a passing storm messed the waves up for Sunny Garcia's heat, but he got got himself back in the game with a punchy frontside micro-barrel 15 seconds from the hooter. First place for Hawaii team mate, Kaipo.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, GlassyFun day 2 at the ISA 2012 masters.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanDay 3 at the ISA Mastrers 2012. Playa Colorados, Nicaragua. Sets running shoulder to head high and all the masters ripping!! GOOD NEWS: We've got swell on its way... A LOT OF IT!!
Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, CleanUnseasonably small and windy.
Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, CleanTiny waves today, barely big enough to surf let alone compete. By evening forerunners for the weekend swell were appearing. Should ramp up through the night and Saturday and hopes are for solid overhead conditions for the finals Sunday.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyPerfect 10 scored on a right hand drainer by US surfer Rick Takahashi (Miguelito, where were you?!?!?). Happy with his performance, Rick exited the water with more than 5 minutes left on the clock. BAD move. With SECONDS remaining Mother Nature dealt Hawaii's Mr Garcia some South Pacific loving.... and Sunny did what he does best... got his nuts shacked off whilst flipping the peace sign to the ISA photog, judges & roaring crowds as he locked down a perfect line.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSouth westerly swell filled in through the night and Colorados was GOING OFF for the finals of the ISA 2012 Masters event here at Colorados. Tube fest extraordinaire with competitors holding down impossible lines and getting miraculously spat out from 5 second barrels long after everyone though they'd been shut down. Big MAHALO to Mike, Sunny, Nelson, Rochelle, Glen & Kaipo who we've had staying with us. Its been a pleasure and we look forward to seeing you again at the Juniors next year!!
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanThe AFTER-PARTY: 5-Star Colorados through the morning and just a handful of locals out there scoring some of the sickest barrels of the season.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanPlenty of swell but WINDY!! 2012 is reminiscent of 2009 in terms of lack of rain; the place is a dust bowl at the moment. Looking at the forecast the current conditions look set in. Offshore & overhead EVERYDAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.........
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanGenerally small with occasional head high sets. The water temp is dropping and jelly fish are coming in close due to the continuing moderate/ strong offshores.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanNot much sign of the 17 second pulse supposed to be showing up today. But with 8ft at 18 seconds on the forecast toward the end of next week WHO CARES?!?!?
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanThere's talk the El Niño phenomenon could be taking grip in the equatorial Pacific. What is El Niño? When equatorial Pacific ocean temperatures increase my more than 0.5C. What happens? In short, if the El Niño pattern takes hold a blocking high pressure builds up over the tropical Atlantic. This reduces the chance of hurricanes & tropical storms developing in the Caribbean. According to Wikipedia "El Niño is credited with suppressing hurricanes and made the 2009 hur
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanFun throughout the day as plenty of swell, but HOWLING winds between 10am and 4pm. The GALE FORCE winds we are experiencing in Nica at the moment are common in Jan, Feb & March... but far from normal in July. These winds are the result of a steeper than normal pressure gradient between the tropical Pacific and Atlantic air masses either side of the Central American Isthmus. Possibly as a result of EL NIÑO. What could be the SWELL OF THE SEASON is closing in fast with an estimated arriva
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanFun today on remnants of yesterday's southerly bump. Moderate wind through the morning calmed down through the afternoon. Grey, overcast.... and COLD. Eh?!?!
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanStill start to the day and some nuggets coming through early morning with the tide coming in. Looked like the wind wasn't going to happen, then the switch flipped at 10am and it HOWLED through until 6pm. 4-stars for the early session; not much good through the afternoon.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanSmall & closed out. Strong cross shore wind whipped up midday worsening already weak conditions. Should start happying up tomorrow, Weds. Looking good for the rest of the week and through the weekend.

Panga Drops, July 2012

Panga Drops: Small But Surfable, GlassyPanga Drops was managing to serve up a few chest high nuggets through the morning (while it was flat over at Colorados).
Panga Drops: Small But Surfable, CleanBarely any swell at the moment. The only wave breaking in the whole of Tola was Panga Drops... so super crowded. Some fun to be had on the shore break. Sunshine all day and light offshore wind.
Panga Drops: Head High, CleanLay day for team Hawaii so opted to shred a few uncrowded waves at Panga Drops. Head high and throwing a few lips for some fun floaters and occasional makeable barrel.

Playa Santana, July 2012

Playa Santana: Chest High, CleanNot much happening this morning at Colorados so took a peek over at Santana. Feeling like February with clear skies and 20mph offshore wind.
Playa Santana: Head High, CleanMeanwhile over at Rancho Santana its an altogether more civilized affair... The ladies sun themselves by the pool, the gentlemen seek shade. A jolly old time had by all.

Playa Colorado, July 2011

Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyThe wind sorted itself out through the weekend and the swell cranked. Good barrel session Monday afternoon. Sunny day, light offshore breeze.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanTiny again today with light offshore breeze. Sunny.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, Slightly ChoppySmall waves and light onshore breeze, but the sun was out and Miguel somehow managed to snap some great photos...
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyTail end of moderately strong swell pushing through. The wind was onshore yesterday and the day before (Monday & Tuesday), but the offshore is back with us today and the waves have great form.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanSunny day, gentle offshore breeze, steady southerly swell generating constant supply of chest to head high waves. Several peaks working, both lefts and rights.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead Plus, CleanGrey start to the day didn't help with the photography, but some good sized waves coming through this morning. Only the right working at the moment with the swell coming in at 225 degrees.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyHeavy rain over the past few days has turned the water chocolatey and left more than a few with ear ache, but the weather finally appears to have cleaned up and there's still plenty of swell in the water.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanThe weather has been great for the last few days, but the waves tiny. Finally there are signs of a bit of juice on the horizon. Today was chest to head high against a light offshore breeze.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean3 to 4ft, wind generally offshore but occasional blasts of onshore from passing storms. Sunny between the showers.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanThe swell picked up since yesterday and the decent weather held for yet another day. Generally head high, some overhead sets. Light offshore breeze turned light onshore through the afternoon. Fun waves all day, but best in the morning.

Playa Colorado, July 2010

Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyConditions improved through the day. Solid overhead and clean.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead Plus, Glass PerfectionWasn't great at dawn, but as the tide pulled back Colorados erupted.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanTail end of the last swell still giving good waves, and big new swell on its way. Light onshore wind.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionThe sun has at last reappeared and the waves are cranking with a gentle offshore breeze. Pushing double overhead on the sets.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionSmaller than yesterday. Glassy with 2mph offshore breeze.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyChest to head high. Consistent. No wind.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, Glass PerfectionTiny. Hardly any wind.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanChest high and no wind again this morning. Overcast.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, GlassyChest high, fun at low tide. Sunny day with gentle offshore wind.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyGenerally head high, overhead on the sets. Sunny day, gentle offshore breeze.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionMid tide rising session at Colorado's. The best session of the day was in the afternoon on the falling tide, but I didn't have my camera handy. Glass perfection, double overhead, gaping barrels peeling left and right. And hardly anyone out as everyone knackered after the morning sessions.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionThe first photos were from early morning, then a few more from about 8am. Cranking through the low and high tides today. Working best mid tide falling.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionNot huge, but perfect waves this morning on the low tide. Solid head high, glass perfection. Sunny day with gentle offshore breeze.
