Playa Colorado, June 2014

Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanNo onshore as forecast... and looks like the forecast is sorting itself out as the days get closer. Conditions looking good the rest of the week. Size expected to tail off through the week.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanBuenas olas de nuevo! 4-5ft, clean with light offshore breeze, sunshine.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanFun early, got messed up mid day with a passing storm that brought the wind onshore. Cleaned up in the afternoon. Shoulder to head high.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean4-5ft, clean.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Glassy'tis the season! Light offshores, sunshine and overhead barrels.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyMore of the same: 4-5ft glassy barrels. A couple of weeks back the forecast was indicating onshore wind/ storms for these dates. Seems to have sorted itself out. The weather has been great. Solid surf. Happy campers.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSmaller today and wind a little funky midday. Still, plenty of punch to it and much fun to be had
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyIts been breezy (offshore) the past couple days. Not feeling much like early June; we usually get a lot of rain this time of year and the odd few days of onshore wind. The el niño seems to have us set on a path for drought... meaning Nicaragua's offshores will be unfaltering the next few months.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanAnother fun day. Decent swell, great weather.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanMore south in it today, bringing most of the action to the left. Looking good for the weekend/ early part of next week. Onshore menacing from next week.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanFriday 13th and distinctly unscary with sets coming in houlder/ head high max. Should build up tomorrow or Sunday. Hopefully we'll see some rain one of these days...
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, Clean2-3ft, sunshine & light offshores
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanFirst downpour of the year wrought havoc in a few of the houses yesterday, Sunday - but at the same time groomed the surf that had gotten messy from light onshore wind that started midday. Monday saw thumping surf was with biggest sets breaking on the outer bank at Colorados. Onshore winds that had been a feature on the forecast from midweek seem to have vanished. Light offshores now prevailing through the end of the forecast.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSolid overhead, light offshores, surf firing from dawn to dusk. Looking smaller for the rest of the week but at least the onshore winds that were on the forecast haven't played out. The rest of the month looking decent with a couple stronger pulses forecast 24th - 26th then another 29th thru the end of the month.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSteady 3-4ft, clean. Will be small to medium the next few days and pick up some for the weekend.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanPanga Drops giving the best wave today on weak swell. Not expecting much tomorrow (Friday) but should size up a bit on Saturday. Overhead conditions will be back with us Wednesday 25th. Sunday 29th an 18 second swell arrives and will get July (often the best month of the year) off to a rolling start.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanSmall today.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, Clean2-3ft, fun.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSwell has strengthened and weather unsettled. Glassy in the morning got messed up with onshore wind midday. Clean again for the sunset session.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, Clean3-4ft clean, light offshores. Still no rain.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanBig swell on the way from July 3rd...
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanGlassy microtubes early morning. Overcast all day, still no rain...
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanConsistent head high surf, but offshores were howling early. Unusual for this time of the year. Forecast looking extremely solid for July.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanConsistent overhead, great weather and light offshores. Size between swells help up more than expected. Midweek/ Wednesday should see the arrival of powerful southerly.

Panga Drops, June 2014

Panga Drops: Head High, CleanShoulder high, breezy offshore. Consistent.

Playa Colorado, June 2013

Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanGenerally small today and lightest onshore breeze. Big swell on its way midweek to welcome the ISA Juniors most of whom will be arriving in Nicaragua Wednesday or Thursday. The winds have been so light the onshore hasn't had much effect on quality of surf.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanPerfect, glassy waves were a welcome start to the Venezuelan juniors' campaign. They were shredding hard and getting in plenty of practice for the event starting Saturday. Thumping swell with period peaking out at 24 seconds will arrive Wednesday or Thursday and linger through Sunday for the first heats.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanAnkle high ripples lapping gently against the shoreline early morning. By the afternoon a weak swell was present in the water giving occasional shoulder high waves. Crystal clear blue skies, light offshores all day.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanIsolated thunderstorms, mostly overcast and light offshore breeze giving for perfect, glassy conditions. Surf in the 2-3ft band with sets coming in a little overhead. Conditions expected to improve tomorrow Wednesday and through the end of the week on a 17 to 18 second swell. MSW calling for a week long lull June 28 - July 5th, behind this upcoming swell.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSteady 3-4ft surf accompanied by perfect blue skies and light offshore wind. There's swell on the radar for the next few days expected to start rocking up tomorrow Thursday.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanIncrease in consistency and some overhead sets starting to show up. Sunshine thorough the morning, heavy rain storms in the afternoon.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanHead high/ overhead surf with light offshore wind, warm water and wall to wall sunshine. Definitely no complaints. Forecast not looking quite so pretty mañana.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanPUMPING on the left at daybreak but size reduced as tide dropped for 7am low. Shot today's photos 9am to 9:30am with the tide coming back in and size was down from the early morning session. Torrential rain storm in the afternoon gave the place a good drenching; good for plants/ bad for mud & bugs. Unsettled weather looks likely to last the next few days but the good news is the offshores should hold throughout.
Playa Colorado: Shoulder High, CleanPatchy rain through the morning cleared; remained overcast through the afternoon. Steady 3-4ft surf, wind generally offshore.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanUnexpected, perfect conditions. Was expecting morning sickness and onshore wind today, but in spite of storms through the night the offshores held throughout giving perfect glassy conditions at dawn and light offshore wind kept it that way all day. Swell which was expected to be less today was coming in stronger. Classic Colorados :)
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanOnce again, PERFECT weather and waves. Clear skies, light offshore breeze and more swell in the water than on the forecast :)
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanShoulder to head high, light offshores, sunny. Not looking great for the weekend but conditions expected to to improve Tuesday or Wednesday.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSmall bump in the swell today giving some overhead sets. Not looking good for the weekend with period dropping down to 7 seconds on Saturday and winds drifting onshore. There's an 18 second pulse due in Sunday, but winds not expected to switch offshore until Monday or Tuesday. Thursday showing the arrival of a 22-23 second swell accompanied by decent winds/ weather.
Playa Colorado: Waist High, MessyNot great, but a lot better than expected. The wind was 2-3mph onshore and steady supply of swell rolling in. Definitely more than the 7 second lull showing on the forecast would have indicated. Looks like the current pattern will continue through Sunday and possibly Monday before the offshores reestablish Tuesday. Thursday/ Friday looking hopeful for 5-star surf conditions with powerful 23 second swell & good weather.

Playa Santana, June 2013

Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanSmall waves but good form in spite of light onshore wind. Looks like we have a few storms brewing the next few days. Many teams arriving today.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanTORRENTIAL rains through the night cleared out the river beds, unfortunately depositing the trash at the river mouth. Weather due to improve tomorrow (Friday) and looking good for the week ahead. The surf forecast is looking promising throughout the upcoming event.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanBig and nasty brown water session today, due to the heavy rainfall washing out the rivers. According to the forecast the weather should improve tomorrow. Most importantly, the offshores will kick back in and hold through the next 7 days of the event.
Playa Santana: Double Overhead, CleanOffshore wind back with us so once again enjoying clean surf conditions. Pounding swell, looking good for tomorrow. Should be some swell lingering for the first heats Sunday.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanParade of nations in the streets of San Juan de Sur. The 2013 ISA World Junior Surf Championships is now open! Small wave on the menu for the next few days. Possible stronger pulse due in at the end of the week.
Playa Santana: Overhead, CleanDay 1 of the ISA Jnr World Champs
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanDay 2 of the ISA Jnr World Champs. Offshore wind, 2-3ft. Nica boys Oscar and Jackson still in the running making it through their heats.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanDay 3 of the ISA Jnr World Champs. Great weather once again with just a few drops of rain from passing thunderstorms. Locals Oscar & Jackson going strong.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanDay 4 of the ISA Jnr World Champs. Small waves today but looks like a fresh pulse will arrive in time for the finals and Aloha Cup Sunday.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanDay 5 of the ISA Jnr World Champs: last of the locals eliminated. Generally small waves and inconsistent making 15 minute heats more a matter of luck (whether or not a decent set comes along) than skill. Long range forecast looking unsettled through the last week of June.
Playa Santana: Head High, CleanDay 6 of the ISA Jnr World Champs. Some punch to it today, although still small in the waist to shoulder high range. Great weather, light offshore winds. Looking good for the finals and Aloha cup Sunday.
Playa Santana: Shoulder High, CleanSmall waves for the last day of the competition. Congratulations to Australia winning the main event, and Hawaii taking gold for the girls.

Popoyo, June 2013

Popoyo: Head High, CleanPerfect weather, itchy feet and feeling like a cruise so headed over to Popoyo. Shoulder to head high, clean. Surprisingly few people compared to Colorados.

Playa Colorado, June 2012

Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, Slightly Choppy2ft & glassy early morning; the wind switched onshore just after lunch.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyFresh swell coming in clean at 210 degrees giving head-high to overhead barrels on both the left and right. Sunny day, light offshore breeze, warm & clear water. Due to strengthen tomorrow.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassySwell angle veered to 220 sparking up the right at the north of the break. Similar in size to yesterday. Severe electrical storms through the night cleared before sunrise. Sunny day, light offshore.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassySimilar to yesterday. 5-7ft, light offshores and sunshine.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanDecent size again through the morning on the rising tide. Wind died off completely in the afternoon giving for a sunset glass off.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanTail end of weekend swell giving some fun ones through the low tide this morning. Steep beach = backwashy on the high tide. Looking mediocre Thurs & Fri then Saturday a strong southerly is due in from Chile. Wednesday next week a powerful south westerly is due to arrive from beyond Tasmania.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean3-4ft, mostly closed out. Backwashy on the higher tides. 5-Star forecast for the weekend...
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanSome fun ones still coming in. Great weather, light offshore wind. Looking good for the weekend. Has the canicula already started??
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSunny in the morning, clouded over in the afternoon. No rain. 10-15mph offshore breeze - more wind than normal for June. First big lefts of the new swell arriving in the afternoon.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyConditions improved after lunch as the wind reduced on the rising tide. Sunny in the morning, overcast through the afternoon.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean1hr perfect conditions at daybreak. Just half a dozen early birds on it. 8-10ft glassy barrels. By 6:30 the tide was getting too high and an unseasonably strong side offshore wind kicked in. Today's photos are from the low tide rising session in the afternoon. Some fun ones, but no repeat of the daybreak session. Possibly a lump due in at the end of the week (thurs/ fri) but the forecast is not looking rosy for the next 10 days or so.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSwell direction has increased opening up a few more rights. Cloudy. 4ft, mostly closed out. Not looking good for the next 10 days or so.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, GlassyTiny and glassy. No wind all day. Overcast with scattered showers. Swell due in from Tasmania any day now...
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanTiny waves, onshore wind and scattered showers yesterday (Thursday) so no photos. Today, Friday, clear skies & sunshine. The wind was back to normal (offshore) and swell size has increased a little. No sign of the Tasmania swell that was supposed to arrive yesterday...
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass Perfection19 second 3ft TASMANIA swell arrives. Three days later than forecast and with more of a southerly component than expected both the left and right were firing. Light offshore wind, sunshine all day.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyPlenty of juice still in the Tasmania swell which came in 3 days late and with a much more southerly component than expected, hence more lefts than rights. No wind and glassy in the morning became light onshore through the middle part of the day. Heavy downpour in the afternoon killed the wind and gave for a sunset glass-off. Onshore wind forecast for the next few days.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, Slightly ChoppyBarely any waves, onshore wind. Sunny!!
Playa Colorado: Overhead, GlassyTiny and onshore all day Monday and according to the forecast was going to be this way for the rest of the week. So there was cause for celebration today Tuesday when a mystery swell filled in and the wind stayed light enough that it didn't mess up the surf (until mid afternoon).
Playa Colorado: Head High, Slightly ChoppyDecent size again and no wind thorough the morning, light side shore started up in the afternoon. Perfect weather at the moment, clear skies & crystalline water!! This week was supposed to suck :)
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassySufficient juice in mystery swell for fun 3-4ft glassy dawn session. Not much good in the afternoon as swell reduced through the day and sideshore wind picked up.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Glass Perfection3-4ft & glassy through the falling tide in the morning. The offshore is going to be back on in a few days and several fresh swells on their way.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanSame pattern continues due to lingering storm over the Yucatan peninsula. Still & glassy in the morning, light onshore from 10am onwards. 3-4ft with some decent sets appearing from time to time. Blue skies and sunshine.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanA pre dawn storm left it lumpy at first light but cleaned up for a fun high tide session. As its been doing for the past 2 weeks, the side-onshore wind kicked in mid morning. Sunny day.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanRain and onshore wind through the night followed by a grey start to the day. Cleared up early, but the light onshore stuck around. As always waves to be caught, but nothing spectacular. The OFFSHORE should be back with us Thursday :)
Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanPrevailing offshore wind back with us. Not much swell.
Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, CleanTiny today, Friday. Saturday/ Sunday a strong southerly & south westerly are due to combine south of the Galapagos Islands and forecast to reach us Tuesday or Wednesday. Prevailing offshore wind expected to be with us the next 10 days at least. Looking promising midweek through to next weekend.

Gigante, June 2012

Gigante: Chest High, Rough But SurfableLumpy high tide dawn session was as good as it got today. Surf competition over at Playa Amarillo had a good turn out in spite of the conditions. 2-3ft, messy.

Playa Colorado, June 2011

Playa Colorado: Chest High, CleanChest to head high early morning with no wind at all. Light onshore breeze started up at 10am and stuck around through the afternoon.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass PerfectionThe hurricane off southern Mexico gave us four days of rain and onshore wind, but finally cleared up Wednesday afternoon. Thursday morning Colorados was on form and doing what is does best. Steady supply of head high barrels, gentle offshore breeze
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassySunny day, thousands of brightly coloured butterflies fluttering about on the gentle offshore breeze. 3 to 6ft, glassy, hardly anyone around.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanGrey day, but plenty of fun waves. The right out from the thorn tree giving some real drainers on the lower tides. Not many lefts coming through today.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyTen days straight of good waves and today didn't break the run - although the wind did come onshore in the afternoon. 3-4ft, occasionally bigger on the sets.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassySmaller today than yesterday, but the wind switched offshore during the night giving for a fun early morning session. Sunny day again, generally 3 to 4ft. Overhead sets every twenty minutes or so.
Playa Colorado: Double Overhead Plus, Glass PerfectionSummer Solstice 2011. Sunny day, double overhead plus, gentle offshore breeze. According to the forecast 6ft swell @ 15 seconds.
Playa Colorado: Head High, Glass PerfectionNot as big as yesterday or the 21st, but plenty of decent sized waves still coming in. Overcast with light rain showers through the early part of the morning, no wind at all. Perfect form & glassy.
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanThursday, Friday & Saturday saw a lot of rain and onshore wind. Sunday morning lumpy, but plenty of swell and some decent waves still getting through.
Playa Colorado: Head High, GlassyTail end of swell from first half of week working its way through. Consistent chest to head high. Occasional bit of juice still coming in. Sunny day, gentle offshore breeze.
Playa Colorado: Chest High, GlassyHardly any swell left, but plenty of fun still to be had. Sunny day with gentle offshore breeze.

Playa Colorado, June 2010

Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanPanga drops was awesome this morning - double overhead, breaking way out. Colorado's head high barrelling hard and fast on the left, although several peaks working. Blue skies, sunny, gentle offshore. Life's good!
Playa Colorado: Head High, CleanShoulder to head high. No wind.
Playa Colorado: Overhead, CleanSolid 17 second swell, no wind at all.
