Laguna de Apoyo literally translates to Lake of Support. This harks back to the Spanish colonial era when it was said that the crystal clear, mineral rich waters of the lake had special healing properties. Whether or not this is scientifically accurate, what cannot be disputed is that a few days spent at the Laguna de Apoyo will work miracles on ones general well-being & stress level. The San Simian resort is designed to blend in with the surrounding countryside and to have the least possible impact upon it.

Life on the Laguna

Each of the five rustic cabanas has its own unique characteristics. Whilst all of the cabanas feature outdoor (yet private) bathrooms, the Mango Moon Cabana is the only one to boast a beautiful blue tiled sunken bath tub and hot water making it the perfect choice for honeymooners or those seeking a little extra luxury. While a backwater, the San Simian resort is by no means backward and benefits from a fast WiFi internet connection. Fresh food is served daily from the full service restaurant. From Granada: Take the Masaya road heading toward Managua. At the 37.5KM marker you'll see the signs for the entrance to the Laguna de Apoyo on the left. Take this turning and you'll follow the road up to the craters edge, and then down the other side to the lake shore. Eventually you'll reach a dead end with a T-turn, take the right here following the signs to Norome. San Simian is 1km past Norome on the left hand side.
